My journey into website creation started in 1997 when I worked for National History Day in Washington State, and I realized they desperately needed their own website. I started from scratch, learning as I went, and created a basic but extensive and informative website for them. Then I started creating sites for my own benefit, as well as for some of my family, friends and acquaintances. My creative interests, along with a desire to help people connect with each other, inspired me to create Interdependent Webs in May 2007. I no longer provide new sites at a cost, rather I have chosen to focus on family and friends and provide my skills only as needed. As for my private side, I am originally from the Pacific Northwest, and I lived in the Boston area for four years before moving to Kalamazoo in late 2002. I am a mom of two younger children born in 2001 and 2004 who both had a lot to do with connecting me more to my local communities. In November 2003, I founded a group called Natural Families of Kalamazoo which has since grown to almost 200 members, all supporting each other in our search for healthier family living here in Kalamazoo. Then in March of 2009, Kalamazoo for Kids was created to help local families find as many family friendly activities, classes, places, businesses and resources in the area as possible. Starting from where we are, I truly believe that community support is what can bring us to a more fulfilling way of life, and I will continually strive for this in my own life. Connections keep us alive.
About My Logo The Interdependent Webs logo represents an old Druidic symbol called the Wheel of Being (also called the Fivefold Pattern), consisting of four circles which represent the four directions or elements (earth, fire, water and air), united by the fifth circle in the center which represents aether, spirit, or balance. I am drawn to this symbol because for me it represents connection: diverse elements working together in a simple way to create something beautiful and meaningful. This is also what I have wanted Interdependent Webs to represent, bringing local people together to help each other in meaningful ways.
